WHAT CONDITIONS DOES DR. WEISS TREAT?

There are multiple reasons why you may decide to see an orthopedist for treatment. Orthopedic surgeons like Dr. Weiss are trained to identify, diagnose and treat all injuries, diseases, infections and conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system. The musculoskeletal system includes bones, muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments, nerves, cartilage and other connective tissues.

When one part of the musculoskeletal system is injured or not functioning properly, you may experience pain, swelling, stiffness, loss of range of motion or loss of movement. It’s up to your orthopedist to find the problem and design a treatment plan to heal damage, reduce pain and get you back on your feet.

An orthopedic surgeon treats:

  • Acute or chronic joint pain (shoulder, knee, hip, ankle, etc.)
  • Back and neck pain
  • Spine injuries, like a herniated disc
  • Spinal deformities, like scoliosis
  • Nerve compression
  • Sports injuries
  • Traumatic injuries from falls or car accidents (whiplash, concussions)
  • Fractures
  • Soft tissue inflammation (tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, bursitis)
  • Soft tissue sprains, strains and tears
  • Arthritis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Bone or joint infections

Please call us to make an appointment with Dr. Weiss if you’re experiencing pain that lasts for days or weeks, difficulty performing everyday activities, difficulty walking or moving, shakiness or instability while walking, or new numbness and weakness.

ORTHOPEDIC TREATMENT METHODS IN OUR CLINIC

One common misconception many people have is that they’ll be forced into undergoing surgery if they seek medical care from an orthopedic surgeon. However, that’s far from the case: orthopedists are trained in nonoperative and operative treatment methods and your doctor will explore all treatment options when creating a treatment plan. Conservative treatments for orthopedic injuries and conditions may include a mix of rest, pain medications, physical therapy, assistive devices (like canes, walkers, braces, or wraps) and lifestyle changes.

Orthopedic surgeons like Dr. Weiss are trained to perform several non-surgical and surgical procedures to repair or treat musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. These procedures can include:

  • Injections. Non-surgical cortisone injections temporarily reduce soft tissue or joint pain and inflammation. Nerve block injections temporarily block pain signals and can be used as a diagnostic tool to help your orthopedist determine the source of your pain.
  • Regenerative medicine. Cellular therapies with stem cell and platelet-rich plasma injections are successfully being used to treat orthopedic injuries.
  • Joint replacement surgery. Joint replacement is one of the most common orthopedic procedures. During surgery, an arthritic or damaged joint is removed and replaced with an artificial joint.
  • Arthroscopy. Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat or repair joint, cartilage and soft tissue damage.
  • Fracture repair. Significant bone fractures may require open reduction and internal fixation surgery. During the procedure, a broken bone is manipulated back into place and secured with metal screws, rods or plates.
  • Osteotomy. During an osteotomy procedure, bone is cut and reshaped to repair joint damage or a bone deformity.

Orthopedic surgeons are also trained to perform spine surgeries. Dr. Weiss specializes in minimally invasive spine procedures to treat painful and debilitating conditions like herniated discsspinal stenosisdegenerative disc diseasebone spurs and scoliosis. The goal of minimally invasive surgery is to stabilize and realign spinal bones and joints and relieve pressure on compressed nervesMinimally invasive procedures have fewer risks, a lower lower infection rate and a faster recovery period compared to open surgeries. Dr. Weiss has helped many patients eliminate pain, regain better mobility and return to the activities they love.
